THE MOST HOLY BODY & BLOOD OF CHRIST

REFLECT & PRAY

A Word from Fr Danny:

At the close of the Easter season, we celebrate a number of significant theological feasts: Trinity Sunday, Corpus Christi, and, coming up, the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Today we celebrate Corpus Christi, the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Traditionally, it is celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday, mirroring Holy Thursday, when Jesus instituted the Eucharist. In many countries, including New Zealand, the celebration is transferred to Sunday so that more of the faithful can participate.

As part of the celebration of Corpus Christi, the Church holds Eucharistic processions. These processions are a public witness to faith in the Real Presence of Christ in the Eucharist. Christ leads His people, and we follow. Traditionally, the Blessed Sacrament is carried through the local streets in prayer and song.

In this way, the procession expresses Christ’s blessing upon the world and His invitation to all people to come and adore Him. It also reminds us that the Church understands herself as a pilgrim people, journeying toward the heavenly kingdom with Christ as our guide.

Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: DEUTERONOMY 8:2-3,14-16

Moses instructs the Israelites to never forget their 40-year journey in the desert and the Lord’s deliverance of them from slavery in Egypt. What has God done in your life that you will never forget?

SECOND READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 10:16-17

Paul reminds the Corinthians that the Body and Blood of Christ unite us as one body. Do you see your faith community united by the Eucharist?

GOSPEL: JOHN 6:51-58

Jesus teaches the crowds that whoever eats his body and drinks his blood will live forever. Who could you invite this week to attend Sunday Mass and receive the Eucharist with you?

PARISH NEWS

PACT RETREAT DAY | Sunday 7th June | Beginning at 9am Mass

On the first Sunday of each month, we gather after 9am Mass to pray for the protection of human life in New Zealand. Abortion is widespread (17, 775 in 2025) and euthanasia is part of our law. We believe we cannot be silent. Every human life is sacred and worthy of protection.

For 13 years, our parish has faithfully offered this prayer, asking the Lord to change hears, guide our leaders and renew respect for life in our nation. We would love you to join us.

ABORTION. BABIES CAN LIVE WITHOUT IT.

The Reluctant Saint (1962) is a biographical comedy-drama that tells the true story of Giuseppe Desa, a 17th-century Italian peasant who was widely considered slow and clumsy, yet defied all expectations to become a priest, performing miraculous acts of levitation and eventually achieving sainthood.

Join us this Sunday 7th June 6.30pm in St Patrick’s Church Cafe, All Welcome.
