Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: ECCLESIASTICUS 35:12-14, 16-19

Sirach teaches us that God cares deeply about our desire for justice. Can you think of a time when you fought against an unjust situation?

SECOND READING: 2 TIMOTHY 4:6-8, 16-18

As Paul nears the end of his life, he shares with Timothy how he fought hard for the faith, ever grateful for the Lord’s support. As you look back on your life, can you see where God has been present?

GOSPEL: LUKE 18:9-14

Jesus teaches the crowds about the importance of humility. Does humility come to you naturally or do you have to work at it?

A Word from Fr Danny:

Usually, our Lord does not tell us exactly what we must do; instead, he places before us something to ponder — something that engages both our intelligence and our heart. It would be much clearer if he simply said, do this or do not do this. But he treats us as intelligent, spiritual, rational beings. His way — leading us through the process of reaching the right conclusion and the right action — is part of his plan for us: that we come to understand, as far as we can, the true nature of God. And this he cannot convey directly, for words fail to express the fullness of who God is.

Perhaps this is the Pharisee’s problem in the Gospel. He reached the right conclusion — doing mostly good things — but because his idea of God was mistaken, in the end he got everything wrong.

May we seek not only to do what is right, but to know rightly the God who calls us to act.

- Fr Danny

THIS WEEK….

Don’t our gardens look beautiful?!  If you’re keen to lend a hand on a casual basis, to pull a few weeds, come along on a Wednesday anytime between 12noon and 3pm and join some of our gardening team.

COMING UP…

Ruth & Boaz is a modern-day, faith-based drama film that retells the biblical love story of Ruth and Boaz.

Plot: A talented singer named Ruth flees the Atlanta music scene to start over in rural Tennessee, where she begins caring for an elderly woman named Naomi. In this new life, she finds not only a mother figure in Naomi but also love with Boaz.
