29TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Questions for the Week:
FIRST READING: EXODUS 17:8-13
Moses needed to rely on his brother (Aaron) and his friend (Hur) to assist him in defeating the Amalekites. Can you think of a time when you really needed the support of your family or friends?
SECOND READING: 2 TIMOTHY 3:14-4:2
Paul instructs Timothy to be persistent in relying on what Sacred Scripture teaches us. How do you use Scripture as a guide for your life?
GOSPEL: LUKE 18:1-8
With the parable of the persistent widow, Jesus teaches the disciples about the importance of praying often to God. When do you find yourself praying?

A Word from Fr Danny:
This Sunday, our Lord speaks of the need to pray continually and never lose heart. Does this mean we should expect our prayers will not be answered? If they were always answered, we might never be tempted to lose heart. Why, then, does God not simply grant our requests? Would that not seem more efficient for everyone?
When our Lord delays in answering, it must be so that we develop a need for something greater than what we even know to ask for. What could be more important than world peace, or that our loved ones live their faith? It can only be something to do with Christ Himself — a deeper, perhaps unrealised, need within us: to cling to Him even when we feel abandoned.
In this way, the quality of our desire is refined and purified. Thus we are slowly prepared for the burning fire of God’s love, of which heaven consists.
