16TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Questions for the Week:
FIRST READING: GENESIS 18:1-10
Abraham’s treatment of the three strangers modeled the value of hospitality in the ancient world. What are some ways you show kindness and warmth to others?
SECOND READING: COLOSSIANS 1:24-28
Paul found reasons to rejoice despite suffering for his faith in Christ and his mission to the Gentiles. How do you find joy and hope in difficult situations?
GOSPEL: LUKE 10:38-42
Jesus teaches Martha that her anxiety and worry can be calmed by listening to his words. How can you be present this week to an anxious friend or co-worker?

A Word from Fr Danny:
Why did Martha not feel compelled to sit at the Lord’s feet like her sister Mary? If Christ is so holy, and Martha was clearly well-intentioned, why did she misread the situation so badly and busy herself with serving? Are we aware that our own “holiness radar” might be miscalibrated?
How do we get it right? How do we reflect truthfully on our discernment and remain open to the promptings of Christ? Clearly, just being in Christ’s presence is not enough. This should concern us as Catholics, who have Christ truly present in the most substantial way at Mass.
We are called to choose the better part—but how do we recognise it? The encouraging promise is that once we discover the better part, Christ assures us that it will not be taken from us.
