15TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Questions for the Week:
FIRST READING: DEUTERONOMY 30:10-14
Moses taught the Israelite that the Lord is not remote but nearby to each of us. When was a time you felt especially close to God?
SECOND READING: COLOSSIANS 1:15-20
Today’s reading is a poem composed by Paul to describe the divinity and supremacy of Jesus. How do you express your thoughts about Jesus to others?
GOSPEL: LUKE 10:25-37
In the parable of the good Samaritan, Jesus teaches the lawyer that a neighbor is anyone you treat with mercy. Who might you treat with mercy this week?

A Word from Fr John Jolliffe:
The self-righteous lawyer, an expert interpreter of the Mosaic Law, asked a question to trap Jesus. Jesus merely asks, what does the Law say? The lawyer, embarrassed by his failure, tries again to trap Jesus. Jesus simply tells a story, the parable of the Good Samaritan. It leads the lawyer, and us, to find truth in the human heart and in the true heart of the Law. The lawyer’s traps failed. He had to admit God can offer salvation even to Samaritans and good gentiles. What he do then? Did he go off in a huff, self-humiliated, ashamed, and angry? Did he apologise to Jesus or to the gentile crowd? Luke deliberately does not tell us. Because, for Jesus and Luke, when we proudly judge others, we are that lawyer. Jesus always tells parables directly for us listeners. Only we can finish our own story.
