14TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Questions for the Week:
FIRST READING: ISAIAH 66:10-14
Isaiah speaks of God’s love and care for Jerusalem as a loving mother who feeds and comforts her child. What are some favorite memories or images you have of your mother?
SECOND READING: GALATIANS 6:14-18
Paul ends his letter to the Galatians emphasizing that believers are part of God’s “new creation,” no longer defined by circumcision and uncircumcision. How does your faith community encourage or energize you to think differently?
GOSPEL: LUKE 10:1-12, 17-20
The 72 followers of Jesus succeeded in their work to preach the kingdom of God and heal the sick and demon possessed. What does a successful parish look like today?

A Word from Fr John Jolliffe:
“The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them out ahead of him, in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself was to visit. He said to them, ‘The harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest.’” Yes, we must pray for vocations to priesthood and religious life. However, also note the “seventy-two others” were lay people. We were all baptised (lay) priest, prophet and king with a mission to spread the Good News. Jesus “appointed” and “sent” laity on mission. Jesus would then personally visit to complete their work. He sent laity in small groups so they could support and encourage each other. Think of inviting friends to Mass or a parish faith formation programme, and Jesus will visit them.

THIS WEEK….
Don’t our gardens look beautiful?! If you’re keen to lend a hand on a casual basis, to pull a few weeds, come along on a Wednesday anytime between 12noon and 3pm and join some of our gardening team.
Based on the true story of prominent mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr, who seemed to be guaranteed a promising future when he won international acclaim as a result of his pioneering work in the field. After he is recruited to assist the military with top-secret code-breaking duties, the high-pressure job takes its toll on him, and he begins to develop a mental illness.
