Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: ACTS 12:1-11

In his miraculous escape from prison, Peter was convinced of God’s saving work in his life. Where do you see God at work in your life?

SECOND READING: 2 TIMOTHY 4:6-8, 17-18

As Paul was nearing the end of his life, he realized that God had rescued him from many dangers and threats. As you reflect on your life, can you see times when God’s saving hand was present for you?

GOSPEL: MATTHEW 16:13-19

Jesus commissioned Peter to be the foundation (“rock”) of his Church. Are there any roles or responsibilities you feel called to do in your parish?

A Word from Fr John Jolliffe:

Today is the feast of Sts Peter and Paul.  Jesus chose these two Apostles as foundational leaders to express two vital aspects of his Church’s life and mission. He renamed Simon to Peter, meaning rock, the rock on which he would build his Church. Jesus always remains the head and leader of his Church, but Peter is his visible spokesperson to keep us all united on the solid rock of Christ’s true teaching and Sacramental life. On the way to Damascus, the Risen Jesus told Saul (later called Paul) that he, Jesus, and the Church community are one. He chose Paul to give impetus to the missionary life of the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ, where everyone can be members. Paul’s mission was to spread the Good News of salvation to the gentiles and to all peoples to the ends of the earth.

THIS WEEK….

Don’t our gardens look beautiful?!  If you’re keen to lend a hand on a casual basis, to pull a few weeds, come along on a Wednesday anytime between 12noon and 3pm and join some of our gardening team.

Based on the true story of prominent mathematician John Forbes Nash Jr, who seemed to be guaranteed a promising future when he won international acclaim as a result of his pioneering work in the field. After he is recruited to assist the military with top-secret code-breaking duties, the high-pressure job takes its toll on him, and he begins to develop a mental illness.
