Questions for the Week:

FIRST READING: ACTS 1:1-11

Just before his ascension into heaven, Jesus commissioned the disciples to be witnesses to the world of his life, death and resurrection. How do you share your faith with friends or neighbors?

SECOND READING: HEBREWS 9:24-28,10:19-23

Paul offers a prayer for the believers in Ephesus to be given wisdom, knowledge and an enlightened heart. What are you praying for this week?

GOSPEL: LUKE 24:46-53

The disciples were overcome with joy and thanksgiving, praising God for the gift of the resurrected and ascended Jesus. What gift from God brings you joy?

A Word from Fr Danny:

From a human perspective, it might seem better if Christ had remained physically with us rather than ascending to the Father and sending the unseen Holy Spirit. Or even both—Christ visible among us and the Holy Spirit. Imagine Our Lord Himself celebrating Mass and performing miracles wherever they were most needed. Wouldn’t that lead to more believers, more love, and more kindness? Or would it?

Might we grow jealous of miracles done for others but not for us? And if Christ did everything, what would be left for us to do? Would the Church still have a purpose?

Let us remember that the birth of the Church happened after the Ascension, at Pentecost. Does this not place greater emphasis on the reality and mission of the Church? Christ desired the Church so much that He chose to ascend, entrusting us with His mission, so that the Church could be His living presence in the world—not as a replacement, but as the continuation and extension of His physical body.

THIS WEEK….

All are welcome, please see Dennis or Catherine Hancock or contact the office for further information.

Don’t our gardens look beautiful?!  If you’re keen to lend a hand on a casual basis, to pull a few weeds, come along on a Wednesday anytime between 12noon and 3pm and join some of our gardening team.

"Chariots of Fire" tells the true story of two British track athletes, Eric Liddell, a devout Scottish Christian, and Harold Abrahams, a Jewish Cambridge student, who compete in the 1924 Paris Olympics. Liddell runs for the glory of God, while Abrahams runs to overcome prejudice. The film depicts their journeys from post-World War I Britain to the Olympics, highlighting their personal struggles, triumphs, and the challenges they face due to societal expectations and their own convictions.
