4TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Questions for the Week:
FIRST READING: ZEPHANIAH 2:3,3:12-13
Zephaniah speaks of a “remnant” of Israel who will live humbly and seek justice. Are there people in your life who live this way?
SECOND READING: 1 CORINTHIANS 1:26-31
Paul describes members of the Corinthian church as foolish, weak and despised. How would you characterize your faith community?
GOSPEL: MATTHEW 5:1-12a
Jesus begins his “Sermon on the Mount” with the many ways that people are blessed. What do you consider your biggest blessing?

A Word from Fr Danny:
Today we hear the Beatitudes: “How happy are the poor in spirit.” Here is a simple test. How many of the Ten Commandments can you name, and how many of the Beatitudes can you name? For most of us, the Commandments come more easily, perhaps because they are concrete and measurable. “Thou shalt not” is clear and external. Yet if Our Lord gives us the Beatitudes, He is offering something more, something deeper.
A person could be keeping all the Commandments and still not have a heart that is truly converted. The Beatitudes, however, speak directly to the interior life. As St Paul reminds us, what matters is not what is merely outward, but what is written on the heart, something not of the letter but of the spirit (cf. Rom 2:29).
These two dimensions meet in the sacraments of the Church. Here Christ unites the physical, the external, and the spiritual. We confess our sins aloud and receive forgiveness, and we offer bread and wine and receive in return the Author of life Himself.

Candlemas – Feast of the Presentation of the Lord
Monday 2 February | 7pm Mass
Parishioners are warmly invited to join us for the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord, traditionally known as Candlemas. Please bring candles from home to be blessed during Mass.
This feast recalls Mary and Joseph presenting the child Jesus in the Temple, where he is proclaimed “a light to enlighten the nations” (Luke 2:32). The blessing of candles reminds us of Christ as the light of the world, and of our call to carry that light into our daily lives.
Following this feast, our Nativity scene will also be taken down, marking the close of the Christmas season.
All are most welcome. 🕯️

RETREATS
Pilgrimage of Mercy | Women’s Retreat
Date/Time - Fri 29 May - Sun 31 May 5:00pm - 12:00pm
Being led by Grace to the River of Mercy
Come as you are; weary, wondering, or wide open. Journey with us into a sacred space of rest, reflection, and renewal.
Guided by Sr. Kat Stone (MGL Australia) and Retreat leader and coach Jen (Aust. Cert in leadership in Ministry), this Spirit-led retreat is an invitation to step away from the noise of life and walk gently toward the stillness of divine mercy.
Through prayer, silence, sacred conversation, and moments of still waters, you’ll be led – not by striving – but by grace, into the tender current of God’s healing presence.
This is a pilgrimage for the heart – a return to the mercy that was never withheld, only forgotten. You don’t need to earn it. You simply need to follow and allow God to minister to you.
