21ST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Questions for the Week:
FIRST READING: ISAIAH 66:18-21
Isaiah reveals to us God’s plan to gather and unite all His people and witness His glory in the age to come. What are you hoping for in the future?
SECOND READING: HEBREWS 12:5-7,11-13
The author of Hebrews offers words of encouragement for community members struggling and discouraged in their faith. Is there a friend or co-worker you could look to support this week?
GOSPEL: LUKE 13:22-30
Jesus speaks to the crowds of the dire consequences of rejecting his call to salvation. What could be some effective ways to bring others to faith in Jesus?

A Word from Fr Danny:
“I do not know where you come from” (Lk 13:25) are sobering words to hear from Christ in response to our knocking and saying, “We once ate and drank in your company; you taught in our streets.” The point is clear: it is not enough to want Christ merely for what he can do for us. We must recognise that our very being has its origin in God. Christ invites us to see that we are one with him, for both he and we have the Father as our source. For the Son, this means eternal generation—begotten, not made. For us, it means being created in a gratuitous act of divine love. The difference is infinite, yet there remains an analogy of origin. Only when we discover the Father as our source do our words about being taught, eating and drinking with Christ find their true fulfilment in the Eucharistic mystery.
- Fr Danny
In the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy (2016), Pope Francis appointed Missionaries of Mercy for all corners of the earth. Our diocese is fortunate to have Fr Richard Shortall SJ who, with the unanimous support of our clergy, has made himself available to 'be a presence' of mercy and HOPE throughout this Jubilee year. Fr Shortall will be available
Tuesday 2nd September:
St Patricks 10am-12.15pm, 4pm-5.30pm
Wednesday 3rd September :
St Patricks 9am-10am
St Joseph the Worker 12.45pm-3pm
Thursday 4th September:
St Patricks 10am-5.30pm
A signup sheet is set up in the foyer with the times available for our Church’s. Simply place a tick (no names) next to the time you wish to sit with Fr Shortall and ensure you turn up in the allotted time. Further information can be found on the flyer in our foyer, and through this link.
