Paul and Barnabas experienced resistance from some of the Jews and leaders of the city of Antioch. What sustains you in difficult and challenging experiences?

SECOND READING: APOCALYPSE 7:9,14-17

John sees a vision in which those who have suffered and died for the faith are comforted by God and relieved of their distress. Is there a family member or friend you could comfort this week?

GOSPEL: JOHN 10:27-30

We hear how Jesus gives eternal life to all who follow him. How does following Jesus impact your work or family life?

A Word from Fr Danny:

“Habemus papam” – We have a pope.
Pope Leo XIV is our 267th pope, and we give thanks and pray for him in his ministry as Successor of St. Peter and Servant of the Servants of God.

By choosing the name Leo, he recalls Leo the Great, who taught that Jesus is one person with two natures—divine and human—and famously met Attila the Hun to save Rome. Perhaps more significantly, he evokes Leo XIII, who reigned from 1878 to 1903 and issued Rerum Novarum, laying the foundation for modern Catholic social teaching and critiquing political ideologies that conflict with the dignity of the human person.

Given that our new pope was an Augustinian friar, he may also be inspired by Leo XIII’s Aeterni Patris, which upheld the teachings of the Church Fathers, especially Augustine and Aquinas. Of the former, Leo XIII wrote:
"Of a most powerful genius... he combated most vigorously all the errors of his age."
